Professor Helena Flam will be a keynote speaker at the workshop. Helena Flam has been a professor of sociology in Leipzig, Germany since 1993, and has published on social movements, discrimination and emotions in English, German, Polish and Swedish. She is a co-founder of the European Emotions Network, and the current convenor of the Research Network on Emotions (RN11) within the European Sociological Association. Professor Flam will present her work on the contribution of classical sociology to economics and emotions, in particular to the question of ‘what holds society together’ and/or how social order is possible. She will discuss the historical differences between American and European sociological treatment of emotions.
