Restricted Level

Country Years Available Access Requirements
Australia 1997, 1992, 1987 To access the Australian data, researchers first must apply to the Australian Bureau of Statistics for permission to use the Confidential Unit Record Files (CURFs) for the 1997 time use survey. Permission is not automatic, and researchers must make a case for access. The details are available from the ABS website under "Services we provide" (top of page navigation options).
Canada 1998, 1992 Registered users of the MTUS can access the MTUS World 5.0 series and World 5.1 series of the Canadian data but cannot access the original data files. Access to the original data is only available from Statistics Canada to Canadian residents working at a designated site in Canada. Researchers who do not qualify for access to the original data can hire researchers in Statistics Canada or an authorised Canadian academic department to conduct the research using the original data on their behalf.
Finland 1999/2001, 1987/1988, 1979 This data is not widely available, and access is limited to certain academic research uses. Researchers should apply for permission to use this data using the official Statistics Finland application form (PDF), and, if granted permission, agree to abide by the licensing rules of Statistics Finland. The names of the persons who will be handling the data should be mentioned in the application (e.g. researchers, research assistants, computer support persons). Research assistants should also read and agree to abide by the licensing rules before using the data. Direct queries about access to this data to Hannu Pääkkönen at Statistics Finland.
Sweden 2000/2001, 1990/1991 This data is not widely available, and access is limited to certain academic research uses. Researchers should apply for permission to use this data by submitting a brief proposal which specifies:
  • the aims of the research;
  • the intended dissemination of the results;
  • the intended use of the Swedish data;
  • which Swedish data sets the researcher wishes to use;
  • the names and qualifications of the researcher(s) as well as research assistants who will use the data;
  • the intended time table of the research.
If granted permission, researchers agree to abide by licensing rules and to sign an agreement with Statistics Sweden. Research assistants also should read and agree to abide by the licensing rules before using the data. Direct queries about access to this data to Mikael Molén at Statistics Sweden.
