| Sampling Method and Study Design: | Part of cycle 2 of the Canadian General Social Survey, GSS, a continuing program with a single survey cycle each year, intended to monitor changes in Canadian society over time and also to provide information on policy issues. Telephone interviewing of random digit dialled sample of population aged 15+ excluding residents of Yukon and Northwest Territories, residents of institutions and households with no phone (around 3% of households); the study contained a core sample asked the time diary questions, but ran in parallel with a second questionnaire about language use asked to a random sample of similar size; the diaries included open-ended time slots (respondents asked to provide starting and ending times of activities) households contacted twice, once (Oct-Nov) to collect household information and identify the respondent; the second around a month later (Nov-Dec) to interview to respondent |
