Study Title: Time Use Survey Australia 1992
Collector: Australian Bureau of Statistics
When Conducted: Four collection periods between February and December 1992
Sampling Method and Study Design: The time use survey was conducted on a multi-stage area sample of private dwellings. The sample was selected to ensure that each dwelling within the same stratum had an equal probability of selection. Selected households were initially approached by mail, informing them of their selection for the survey and advising them that an interviewer would call to arrange a suitable time to conduct the survey interview. Diaries were left with the respondents aged 15+ after an initial visit, and were collected at a follow-up visit. The questionnaire included references to health, disability, and caring. Diaries covered 48 hours in 5 minute time slots from 06:00-06:00. Respondents used their own words to describe activities
Sample Size: 4,948 households in private dwellings were selected (reduced to 4,367 after sample loss) containing 8,298 eligible persons 6,879 responded
Response Rate: Of the 4,367 households, 3,013 (69.0%) fully responded, and 465 (10.6%) fully non-responded. Others provided incomplete information. At the individual level, 82.9% returned fully completed questionnaires
