We start by considering historical change in the times of day and week that different sorts of people engage in various activities, and how these have responded to changes in public regulations and services (eg maximum work hours, levels of childcare provisions).
Time diaries often register multiple simultaneous activities, and co-presence, and often also collect simultaneous diaries from multiple household members-materials which are seldom used together. The HETUS material will allow for the first time proper cross-national comparisons taking account of these.
